Everyone at Adelaide Advanced Physiotherapy is committed
to helping you be at your best. To do this we focus on
specialised manual therapy techniques and treatment methods that
are gentle in their application yet powerful in effect.
Throughout the year we all take time to enhance our skills by
attending internationally accredited courses from world leading
practitioners to ensure all our clients benefit from advanced
physiotherapy skills.
Outlined below are some of the techniques we use every day
at Adelaide Advanced Physiotherapy. Ask us next time to
explain the treatment we are doing.
Strain and Counterstrain
Strain and Counterstrain is a gentle, non-invasive technique
that is used to treat muscle and joint dysfunction. A tender
point is elicited and the body is then moved toward a position of
ease to switch this point off. This position is held for 90
seconds, after which the original tender point will be
released.
Strain and Counterstrain is useful for many clinical issues
including:
- Ankle sprains
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Whiplash
- Post-surgical issues
- Headaches
- Chronic Neck Pain
- TMJ dysfunction
- Fibromyalgia
Visceral Manipulation
Techniques which refer to releasing restrictions of the internal
organs and their surrounding tissue. As we move about our
day, our internal organs should move with us; however they can
become restricted and stuck. They then become a fixed point
of tension which causes further restriction and irritation, leading
to referral of pain to the musculoskeletal system.
Visceral manipulation uses soft manual techniques to improve
mobility and functioning of the organ. This can decrease pain
and increase range of movement of the musculoskeletal
system.
It can also have other widespread affects such as reducing the
severity of:
- Headaches
- Incontinence
- Low Back Pain
Craniosacral Therapy
This is a gentle form of hands on therapy that focuses on the
evaluation and treatment of the craniosacral system, which consists
of the cranium (head), spine, sacrum and the membranes and fluid
that surround the brain and spinal cord. It requires specialised
training to learn how to feel the cranial rhythms and effect
therapeutic changes to the craniosacral system.
Craniosacral therapy is very effective in treating disorders of
the head including, vertigo, dizziness, visual disturbance,
migraine headache and sleep apnoea. Craniosacral therapy is also a
very beneficial tool for complementing treatment of the spine and
pelvis.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a form of therapy using acupuncture needles
which is based on muscle physiology and the bodies own pain
relieving and healing mechanisms. It has significant benefit in
people with chronic pain disorders, arthritis, reduced muscle
function, relieving deep muscle tension and can also help to
improve sleep.
Muscle Energy Techniques
Every muscle has an opposite muscle in the body. For one muscle
to contract its opposite muscle must relax to allow fluid movement.
Muscle Energy Techniques are gentle and specific manual therapy
(hands on the body) adjustments that allow a facilitated muscle to
relax and restore fluid movement by engaging the opposite muscle to
the one causing the problem. Muscle Energy Techniques are very
effective in restoring musculoskeletal imbalances and require
extensive post graduate training to become a skilled
practitioner.

Bike Fit is a new scientific approach to measure body and bike.
Do your hands or feet go numb when cycling? Do you get back pain
when cycling? Do you feel 100% comfortable when cycling? Does your
bike fit you?
Adelaide Advanced Physiotherapy provide Adelaide's
only comprehensive approach to measure body and bike. Allowing
optimum integration and maximising performance through a
personalised service.
A physiotherapist will assess your body, take specific
measurements and treat as required. This information is then used
to adjust and tailor the bike to you. A full written report
including all measurements and modifications made will be issued.
These measurements can then be used for reference with future bikes
or after equipment upgrades or replacement. Read more about our Bike
Fits.
Our team of Physiotherapists can come to your club and
assist coaches and trainers in keeping their members training
towards their goals without risk of
further aggravating an acute injury or chronic condition.
Physiotherapist consultations are conducted on site, at ten
minute intervals. We generally visit clubs for an hour, and during
these visits the Physio will assess your member's injury/condition
and advise the best exercises to focus on and those to avoid.
We then liaise with you and make recommendations for the management
of your member's physical concern. Read more about
